Things to do in Meze

Mèze is a small working port on the Étang de Thau, known for its relaxed pace, local markets and waterfront restaurants. Everything is within walking distance in the town.  the port, beaches, main square and shops are all a short stroll away.

The Harbour & Restaurants

The heart of Meze is its harbour, lined with restaurants along the quay. Fresh seafood, local wines and outdoor tables define the atmosphere, especially in the evening as the light settles over the Etang de Thau.

The Market &
Old Town

The market and main square are part of everyday life in Meze, with stalls selling local produce, cheeses and regional food. The old town streets are easy to wander, with small shops, cafes and quiet corners throughout.

Local Events & Traditions

Meze has a strong calendar of events, including traditional water jousting on the lagoon, as well as concerts and festivals throughout the year.

Oyster Farms & Bouzigues

The Etang de Thau is known for its oyster farms, with Bouzigues just along the water. Restaurants sit right on the lagoon, serving oysters and seafood straight from the beds, making it one of the best places for a long, relaxed lunch.

Vineyards & Wine Route

The surrounding area is part of the Picpoul de Pinet wine region, with vineyards and domains open for tastings. It’s an easy way to explore the landscape just beyond the lagoon.

If you’re looking for a city day, Montpellier is an easy trip from Meze. It’s a lively southern city with elegant streets, shops, restaurants and a strong cultural scene, as well as an international airport.

Beaches & Swimming

The local beach in Meze is a short walk from the town, with calm, shallow water ideal for swimming. Along the coast, the long stretch of sandy beach between Sete and Marseillan offers open sea, beach bars and wide views.
